Reserve

Discretion as a principle

Freemasonry has historically carried out its work in a space of reserve, freedom of conscience and respect for the private lives of its members.

The Grand Lodge of Portugal preserves that tradition. Our public presence is therefore deliberately restrained: it exists to make the institution and its principles known and to provide a legitimate means of contact, without exposing what properly belongs to Masonic life.

Discretion does not mean absence. It means reserve.

Continuity
2012

A presence with history

The present institutional form of the Grand Lodge of Portugal is part of an earlier Masonic journey.

The organised practice of the Early Grand Scottish Rite in Portugal dates back to 2012 and was developed and consolidated in the years that followed through the regular transmission of the Rite and the continuity of its work.

The Grand Lodge of Portugal is today the institutional expression of that journey, with responsibility for preserving and transmitting the tradition received to future generations.

The present institution is recent. The path that preceded it is not.

Initiatic tradition

Early Grand Scottish Rite

The Early Grand Scottish Rite practised by the Grand Lodge of Portugal belongs to an initiatic tradition of Scottish and Christian character in which spirituality, initiation and symbolism come together in a path of individual improvement.

Primigenius more majorem, the traditional motto of the Rite, expresses the continuity of a received tradition, preserved through work and intended to be transmitted.
